It is marked as "KY" for build date, and I assume that's May 1974, not May 2004. But on the barrel LHS just ahead of the receiver is the marks [32] where the " [" is a vertical line, also the closing bracket.

I like mine at least as well as my 10-22. My 552 is stock with a lightened trigger spring. It's as reliable and as accurate for all practical purposes as my 10-22 that's been bedded, has a trigger job and an aftermarket barrel.

I still have Dad's old 550-1 that he bought the year I was born (1957) - mail order! I recently got an old and crusty 552 that I am still cleaning up. It has feeding issues and the sights are boogered.
